At Horseshoe Valley Equine Center we treat every horse like they were one of our own. Our staff is caring and experienced.

Dr. Renee D. Nodine, VMD

Renee D. Nodine, VMD, grew up in southeastern Pennsylvania, where she was around horses starting when she was ten. At fourteen, she purchased her first pony and by sixteen, she had a rescued thoroughbred. Renee graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science and earned a Master’s degree in reproductive physiology at the University of Connecticut. After graduation from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, she joined a large, multi-veterinarian practice in Annville, PA. When the owner of that practice retired in 1998, Dr. Nodine opened her solo practice, Horseshoe Valley Equine Center. Her practice now includes ambulatory service and a clinic, located on a 46 acre farm in Annville, where she also takes care of foaling mares and young horses. In 2010, Dr. Nodine added Dr. Rachel Helm, DVM, to her practice. Renee is happily married to Alex whom serves as the HVEC full time barn helper, handy man, van driver and sometimes we give him time to do his own job as a Farrier!

Dr. Nicole Smith DVM

Dr. Nicole Smith was born and raised in Palmyra, where she grew up working with and showing draft horses. She received her B.S. in Veterinary Medical Technology from Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA. She went on to attend veterinary school at St. Matthew's University in the Cayman Islands, and the completed a year of clinical training at Purdue University. In the spring of 2013 Nicole came to work as a veterinary intern at Horseshoe Valley Equine Center. She is now a full time Veterinarian at HVEC. Her areas of special interests include dentistry, theriogenology, and equine behavior. She currently lives in Annville with her rescued black lab-german shepherd mix Andy and Quarter Horse Dotty.

Marialyce Hahn

Administrative Assistant

Marialyce started riding horses when she was 5 years old, tagging along with her older sister. She grew up riding locally, participating in the local “Central Dauphin 4H Club”, and showed 4-H, local, and registered Quarter Horse shows. With her family, she helped start their own boarding facility in Middletown PA in 1987 and continues running that business today along with her sister Becky.

Brenda Royer

Brenda has been working with horses all her life. She graduated from Porlockvale Equestrian Center in Sommerset, England.
Brenda spent eight years at Penn Paddock Equine Center where she met Renee. Brenda has experience working at H&H Tack Shop here in Annville, PA. Since they closed in 2014, she has been with HVEC full time!

Kacie Bachman, CVT, B.S., M.B.A.

Born and raised in Franklin County, PA, Kacie grew up raising beef cattle and horses. She spent 8 summers working as a wrangler/counselor at a local horsemanship camp before getting a job at a mixed large and small animal veterinary practice. She obtained her B.S. in Veterinary Medical Technology and Equestrian Studies from Wilson College in 2012, completed a 3 month international internship focusing in equine medicine at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire, UK, and her M.B.A. from Liberty University in 2015. Kacie joined the HVEC team in March 2015 after getting married and moving to Lebanon County while working for the U.S. Navy. In her free time, she enjoys riding her Quarter Horse, Baylee, in ranch horse shows, team penning and sorting events, and along mountain trails.

Bailey and Amanda

Bailey is our beloved 5 year old Black Lab! She was bought locally from one of Alex's clients because we loved her parents. She returns that love to everyone that comes into HVEC. Sometimes she loves them a little too much!

Amanda, our precious cat was abandoned on Route 81 over ten years ago. Since then she has taken up residency as our local mayor!
